Building an Art Brand That Sells: Crafting a Personality-Driven Identity

I’m excited to dive into a topic that is very close to my heart: building an art brand that sells. After six years in business, I’ve honed my understanding of what makes a brand resonate deeply with an audience. While the concept of visual branding is essential, the real game-changer for me was discovering how to cultivate a personality-driven brand.

What Is a Personality-Driven Brand?

I like to think of a personality-driven brand as one rooted in emotions rather than just visuals. Yes, having appealing colors, fonts, and a consistent style can help you sell art, but this approach limits your artistic expression. Now, imagine building a brand based on feelings—where people buy into you, your mission, your values, and your story.

This emotional connection allows you to experiment with different styles or subjects while still maintaining your audience. Why? Because they’re not just purchasing a piece of art; they’re investing in you and what you represent. Think about your favorite brands: their visuals are appealing, but they also evoke strong emotions or aspirations.

The Power of Emotion Over Subject

Wouldn’t you prefer to be known for a calm and serene brand rather than just as the artist who paints oceans? When you brand yourself around an emotion, you open up a wealth of content opportunities. Conversely, if you identify solely with a subject, moving beyond that niche can be challenging.

Building Your Brand

In my latest podcast episode, I break down the steps for creating a personality-driven brand. Here’s a sneak peek:

  1. Discover Your Core Identity: Reflect on what makes your art and story unique. Define your brand in a few powerful words.

  2. Create Visuals that Align: Design a visual brand board that encapsulates your identity and vision.

  3. Develop Instagram Content Pillars: Identify 3-5 key themes that should consistently appear in your posts, creating a cohesive narrative.

Make Branding Easy

Branding doesn’t have to be overwhelming! It’s about remaining authentic to who you are as an artist and building meaningful connections with your audience. I also offer an exclusive Content Deep Dive Workbook for paid subscribers to help you apply everything discussed in the podcast directly to your brand.
